Super Science Roadshow

Yesterday we had a visit from the Science Roadshow. The focus of the session was Sound Waves.

Some of the main messages about Sound Waves were they could be high in pitch or low in pitch because of the air and if the sound is closer together it is higher in tone and if it’s further away it is lower.

Something I enjoyed the most was the kinetic sand because it felt nice to play with and I learned a lot.

My favourite part of the Science Roadshow was the gas fire because I liked how when you changed the volume it would either grow in width or length.Something I will take away from this visit was that if the air is closer then it will be

higher in pitch because that means that if i make noise of any kind if the air is closer together the noise will be more high pitch.

What happens when the air is closer together?

Peace symbol

This week we made something called a peace symbol. The first thing we had to do was create a word art using words of peace, then we downloaded it and put it on a google drawing template, we then had to write in the boxes about peace. Down below is my Peace symbol

This was a really fun and easy task.

What words would you put in your peace symbol?

Prayer Slide

In week 1 of term three we started planning a Prayer slide, for the prayer slide we had to think of an idea for what we wanted to do the morning our slide was on. In my group there was Charlie Mae and Mila, we decided that we wanted to do prayer through art. All you had was to draw in your kia studies book what you were grateful for. Last week the teachers decided that we were going to make another one. For this one we got to choose our groups, in my group there was Harper.K and Shakarna. Down below is the second prayer slide (I couldn’t find the first one)

For the second one we decided to do a peace chain, for this you needed to write down on a strip of paper what Peace means to you, then Miss Gill stapled them together and I hung It above the Peace wall.

What would you do for your prayer slide if you had one?

The Arts

The driving question for our PBL over Term 2 and part of this Term has been, “How can we as performing artists communicate positive messages to an audience?”

We learnt about The Arts, in particular the elements of Dance, Drama and Music. We read a number of fables or fairy tales and learnt about their positive message. We then took this learning and applied it to our own play writing script.

In my group it was Kayla, Max, Noah and Geoff . we planned out what our script, and fairy tale was going to be. Click here to see our planning document

Once we had planned our ideas, we started to write our script. The fairy tale or fable our script is based on is Snow White and the 7 dwarfs. The positive message that we wanted the audience to take away was to think twice before doing something.

The Google Slide shows everyone’s performance in Tumu, my group’s performance is on slide 2

Something that I enjoyed about this project was performing because I love acting.

Something that I found challenging or would change about this project was Writing the script because I didn’t know what I should write and I personally think that it could be better because most of the time we were on at the wrong times and most of the people were just staring directly at their script instead of the camera.

I am most proud of this project because I wrote most of the script and even tho it could have been better I am very proud of the script.

The OG4 Kaitiaki Book

A few weeks ago in Reading, we read a School Journal about Kaitaiki. There were 4 people who talked about an area they were passionate about and how they show kaitiaki to something. For example greenstone.

We had to then go away and write our own story about something we want to be kaitiaki of. We took photos and then created a 2 page spread on Canva to create our own School Journal.
Here is a copy of our Journal, enjoy reading our stories.
What would you like to be kaitaiki of?

Spectacular science

Welcome to my blog, last week in science we did all kinds of experiments but my all time favourite was the light bulb one.  To do this experiment you would need

My hypothesis was that the light bulb  was going to light up.

  • two lumps of clay
  • led light bulb
  • battery
  • battery wire

In conclusion my hypothesis was incorrect and I failed  to get the light bulb to glow.

Here is what it would look like if it worked

Something interesting is that we tried multiple different light bulbs and it still didn’t work.

Do you enjoy doing science experiments?

Matariki Star

This week we have been learning about Matariki the stars are Matariki, Waiti, Waita, Waipunurangi, Tupuanuku, Tupurangi,Ururangi, Pȱhutukawa. We had to draw on each point of the star what the star meant. We had to research all about each star and we had to plan what to draw.

This is a photo:

What do you do for Matariki?

My Maths boards

Every week for the rest of the term we have to make a maths boards. This week the question I did was 576 – 152 = 424. Bellow this is the document with all my maths boards from term 1 and 2.

Fantastic Fables

This week in reading we have been learning about Fables. I have read 5 different  fables. The fables I read are The tortoise and the Hare,  the Ant and the Grasshopper,  the Greedy Dog, the Sun and the Wind and the Lion and the Mouse.

If you had to read and retell a Fable what one would you choose?

Wonderful Winter Sport

This year, I am playing Netball for Winter Sport. I chose this sport because I love netball and I have been playing for over 4 years and I have wanted to play since my sister was year 3.

I enjoyed this week’s game because I got a lot of interceptions and we won by quite a lot. The score was 26-2.

Something that I want to get better at this season is shooting because I am not very good and I want to get better.

A skill that I would like to focus on next week is sticking to my player because I didn’t stick to my player as much as I wanted to.
